South Dakota has received another feather in its cap, due to Prairie Berry Winery’s Frontenac wine which received a Platinum Award at a new competition in San Diego, Calif., recently. Even the person running the competition was surprised at the outstanding results for a relatively unknown wine state.

Rockerville was the place to be in 1876 due to the discovery of gold. By 1880, it was booming with hundreds of buildings and a population of around a thousand.
When Dakota Territory was created on March 2, 1861, it stretched north to the Canadian border and west to the summit of the Rocky Mountains. Roughly a year later, the first legislature met in present-day Yankton, in the southeast corner of the territory, and named the city the permanent capital. However, this did not last.
