Swissport Cargo Services, the airfreight division of world-leading aviation ground handler Swissport International, has been named Air Cargo Handling Agent of the Year for 2008/2009.
Zurich – The distinction was bestowed by the reputed Air Cargo Week magazine at the recent Transport Logistic fair in Munich, Germany. Swissport was delighted at its first-ever winning of this prestigious award, particularly since it is based directly on nominations and votes by its partners within the airfreight industry.
„We are truly proud to receive this distinction,“ said John Batten, Executive Vice President Cargo Services and head of Swissport International’s global airfreight organisation, accepting it from Air Cargo Week in the presence of numerous industry specialists. „It means the world to us.“ The winners in the various fiercely-contested categories are traditionally named in the course of the annual Transport Logistic event.
„I would like to offer my warmest thanks to all our Swissport Cargo personnel, and to our warehouse and document handling staff in particular, for all their tremendous efforts and energies in this tough market situation,“ Batten continued. „And we are particularly delighted at the appreciation of our customers as the service levels and our quality philosophy that we have as a company is directly linked to this award, coming as it does directly from our industry partners.“
Batten also took the opportunity to highlight the current key priorities within the Swissport Cargo Services organisation:
. uncompromisingly high quality and reliability standards
. a keen customer alignment and a prime focus on customer needs
. lean, innovative and cost-effective processes
. putting added value before added business
. clear responsibilities, both managing and monitoring KPI’s.
Swissport’s cargo division generated total operating revenue of EUR 275 million last year, providing services for some 300 airline customers at over 90 stations worldwide. The division has also been successful in taking various corrective actions in response to the current downward industry trend. Swissport does not, however, expect to see any sizeable recovery of the global air cargo market before 2010 and will make adjustments to its business model to come out stronger after the downturn.
