Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo conclude major agreement for Amsterdam

Swissport International, the world’s leading airport ground and cargo handling company, has signed a cooperation agreement with Lufthansa Cargo, one of the world’s leading Aircargo Carriers, to provide airfreight handling services for the partner airlines of the Lufthansa Cargo Group (incl. Jade Cargo) at Amsterdam Airport for the next three years.

Amsterdam/Zurich – Swissport Cargo Services has been selected following an extensive tender process, and should commence its new operations on 1 March.

Lufthansa Cargo began its search for the best possible provider of their airfreight handling services at Amsterdam last year. The invitation to tender attracted the interest of several major inter-national cargo handlers; and Swissport International has now emerged as the winner of the business concerned.

As a result, Swissport Cargo Services Netherlands will be meeting all of Lufthansa Cargo’s airfreight and ramp handling needs at Amsterdam Airport for a three-year period commencing on

1 March. The annual throughput involved is expected to amount to some 60 000 tonnes.

The new agreement helps further cement the positive business relations and long-standing collaboration between Swissport and the Lufthansa Cargo Group. „We’re delighted that our value-for-money services have prompted Lufthansa Cargo to choose Swissport as their new handling partner for Amsterdam,“ says Jan van Anrooy, Managing Director of Swissport Cargo Services Netherlands.

„Professionals need professionals. We are glad that we found an experienced and reliable partner for the air cargo handling business in Amsterdam. Together we want to grow continuously at Europe’s third biggest cargo airport“, says Alexander Kohnen, Regional Manager BeNeLux Lufthansa Cargo.

Swissport Cargo Services currently operates at 80 stations around the world, handling 3.5 million tonnes of airfreight a year for over 300 customers. Amsterdam has been a key Swissport location for three years now. The local operation employs around 120 personnel, serves 15 customers and has already enjoyed sizeable business success.
