Culinary surprises to mark this summer’s sporting highlights
Two sporting highlights that are lined up this summer for tennis and sailing enthusiasts have provided the inspiration for Lufthansa’s culinary creations on board. On 25 June, to coincide with the opening serve at the legendary Wimbledon tennis tournament, a special surprise awaits Business Class passengers on flights from Germany to London. In keeping with the tradition of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which has been upheld for more than 100 years, they will be treated to fresh strawberries and cream, accompanied by a glass of Champagne from the famous House of Lanson. Strawberries and cream are just as much part of the age-old tradition as the whites worn by the players and the grass courts.
Yachting fans, meanwhile, are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the America’s Cup, the sailing event of the year. On many routes from Germany to selected destinations within Europe, Lufthansa passengers can look forward to a very luscious dessert. To mark the start of the final act of the world’s oldest and most prestigious regatta, passengers will be served a creation of rich shortcrust pastry, confectioner’s custard and fresh fruit in the form of a yacht, garnished with chocolate sails.
Since the beginning of this year, Lufthansa has been offering a range of inflight culinary surprises. During the “Blue Hour” on Friday afternoons, for example, a selection of international cocktails plus European and Asian snacks are offered on domestic German routes.
