If you can’t take the heat, stay away from the kitchen; so goes the saying.

Seychelles culinary professionals can take the heat and will attempt to create some fine dining recipes when they participate in the premier National Culinary Contest which kicks off next week.

A number of prestigious prizes are up for grabs in a competition which aims to promote the local chefs and culinary arts.

The competition has certainly created a stir in the small culinary world of Seychelles and the cooking maestros are eager to show their skills and thrill the taste buds of the judges.

Participants will be required to prepare three dishes: a cold recipe, warm recipe and dessert and the best dish in each category will be rewarded.

Seychellois chefs and cooks will pack pans and cooking gear and happily slice, chop and mix their impromptu combinations from a ‘basket’ of Seychelles products provided by main sponsor ISPC.

The dishes will then be served to the panel of judges with a variety of backgrounds in professional food expertise.  Criteria will include presentation, originality, taste and the use of ingredients.

Preliminaries start on August 24, 25 and 26 whereby the five best recipes will proceed to the finals in October.  The overall winners will be announced at a gala dinner during which each winner will serve his winning dish to the invitees.
