Midwest Air Group Comments on AirTran

Midwest Air Group, Inc. (Amex: MEH), parent company of Midwest Airlines, today commented on the announcement by AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AAI) that it has submitted a slate of three nominees for election to the Midwest board of directors at the next annual meeting of shareholders.

MILWAUKEE – Midwest believes that AirTran has nominated this slate to allow AirTran’s representatives, if elected, to push for a sale of Midwest to AirTran, which would deny Midwest’s shareholders the opportunity to benefit from our strategic plan.

On January 25, 2007, our board of directors recommended that Midwest shareholders reject AirTran’s exchange offer and not tender their shares. The response to AirTran’s unsolicited exchange offer is consistent with what Midwest has heard directly from its shareholders that the benefits of Midwest’s strategic plan will provide greater value than AirTran’s inadequate offer.

Our board stated its belief that the AirTran offer does not fully reflect the value of Midwest’s strategic plan, including our strong market position and future growth prospects. Our board also stated its belief that the timing of the AirTran offer is opportunistic and that the offer is disadvantageous to Midwest’s shareholders.

Our recent earnings announcement shows that we had our third profitable quarter in a row — clear evidence of the strength of our strategic plan. Midwest intends to continue to pursue the strategic plan to grow our business and to create value for our shareholders.
