188 destinations in 79 countries worldwide – Three new routes: Orlando, Karachi, Lahore
Lufthansa is continuing to expand its services. With the introduction of the 2007/2008 winter timetable, the airline’s global route network will encompass 188 destinations in 79 countries. Three new routes are included: to Orlando, Karachi and Lahore. In order to maintain as stable a schedule as possible throughout the year, many of the new services that were added this summer will continue to operate in the forthcoming winter season. The new winter timetable is valid from Sunday 28 October 2007 to 29 March 2008.
The offered seating capacity across Lufthansa’s entire network will increase by 5.7 per cent compared with last year. Available capacity will be increased by 4.0 per cent on European routes and by 6.5 per cent on international routes. “We are enlarging our longhaul route network, with the focus on America and Asia,” said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, member of the Board of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines. “In Europe, we are further expanding our route network to Eastern Europe and simultaneously raising frequencies on several routes to business destinations,” he added.
The winter timetable includes a total of 13,272 scheduled flights, which represents an increase of 2.9 per cent on the previous year (winter 2006/2007: 12,908 flights). From 28 October, Lufthansa will operate 12,208 flights per week on domestic German and European routes and 1,064 long-haul flights to 42 countries in three continents.
Extended route network in growth markets
North America: Lufthansa is launching a new route to Orlando and will thus be offering passengers flights to a second destination – after Miami – in Florida, the “Sunshine State”. In addition, business travellers will have the option of an earlier Lufthansa Business Jet flight to New York (Newark) – departing from Frankfurt at 8:15 hrs, arriving at 11:20 hrs local time. These flights will be operated by the Swiss carrier PrivatAir. The existing Business Jet service from Munich will be operated by an Airbus A340 with First, Business and Economy Class cabins. The seat offer on routes to North America out of the southern German hub will be almost doubled. Out of Germany Lufthansa is offering its customers one of the largest trans-Atlantic route networks, with a choice of 416 flights per week to 19 destinations.
South America: Lufthansa is resuming flights to the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, serving it non-stop from Frankfurt five times per week. This is Lufthansa’s longest nonroute, with a flight distance of just under 11,500 kilometres. Flight time to Buenos Aires, which is the second-largest city in South America, is 13½ hours.
Passengers in Asia will benefit from Lufthansa’s new, direct service to Pakistan, one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Lufthansa is launching the new route from Frankfurt to Karachi and Lahore with three flights a week. Germany’s largest airline is thus further expanding its position as the leading European carrier in Asia.
In Europe, Lufthansa is starting a new service from Frankfurt to Wroclaw in Poland and will continue the service launched on 1 September from Munich to the Romanian city of Sibiu. Some 69 additional weekly connections mainly to eastern and south-eastern European destinations are being offered out of Munich. Lufthansa flies to several other business destinations which are also likely to attract leisure travellers, particularly at weekends. From Frankfurt, passengers will have a choice of three flights a day to Bordeaux in Southwest France. From 14 January 2008, services between Berlin and London will be enhanced with the introduction of a twice-daily non-stop flight from Berlin- Tegel to London City Airport. Passengers will still be able to book most Lufthansa flights to European destinations at the very favourable betterFly round-trip fare of 99 euros. This fare is subject to availability.
Seamless travel to 855 Star Alliance destinations:
As one of the 17 Star Alliance partner airlines, Lufthansa passengers have access to the global route network of the world’s largest airline grouping. The Star Alliance member carriers offer more than 16,000 flights a day to 855 destinations in 155 countries.
