As early as next summer, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines passengers will reap the benefits of bilateral cooperation between the two airlines.

The cooperation agreement was signed today in Istanbul by Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber and Candan Karlitekin, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, following the announcement of Turkish Airline’s accession to Star Alliance.

With the introduction of the 2007 summer timetable on 25 March, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines will operate selected flights between the two countries on a codeshare basis and harmonise their flight schedules. For passengers, this will mean more frequencies, a wider choice of destinations and better connections at Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich hubs, as well as at Istanbul. Participants in each airline’s frequent flyer programmes can collect miles on the Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines networks and also redeem them with the partner carrier.

[GADS_NEWS]In the current winter timetable, Lufthansa offers flights to 183 destinations in 78 countries. Together, Lufthansa and the other Star Alliance member airlines provide connections to 841 destinations in 157 countries. Thanks to the new codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa passengers will be able to choose from a further 27 destinations in Turkey and the Middle East. Passengers from Turkey will have a much wider choice of flights from Turkey to Western Europe, the United States and Canada.
