Iberia will increase its weekly seat capacity by 13% on the Madrid-Tel Aviv route by using large A340 aircraft on two of the 14 weekly flights, starting on September 1st.
Madrid – The A340s, which Iberia flies mainly on long-haul intercontinental routes, will be used on flights between Madrid and Tel Aviv on Mondays and Saturdays.
In addition to their larger seating capacity, Iberia’s Airbus A340s furnish a better quality of passenger service. They offer more leg room, and are equipped with the Spanish airline’s lavish Business Plus seating class, featuring ergonomic seats that unfold into flat beds, an individual touch-screen entertainment system with 15 audio and 26 video channels, and a gourmet meal service designed by the renowned Spanish chef Sergi Arola.
The use of the A340s on some Madrid-Tel Aviv flights raises Iberia’s weekly capacity on route up to 70 tonnes. Iberia expects to significantly increase freight haulage between Spain and Israel, and also between Israel and the rest of Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
In the past three years, Iberia has nearly quadrupled its seat capacity on the Tel Aviv – Madrid route. In 2007, the number of passengers that it carried on the route climbed by 19.2% to more than 169,000, with a passenger load factor of 82%. Some 132,000 (78%) of these passengers made connecting flights from and to other Iberia destinations, especially Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro. Iberia’s network is made of 35 cities in Spain, 42 European destinations, 17 Latin American cities, Boston, Chicago, Miami, New York and Washington in the United States, as well as 10 cities in Africa and the Middle East.
