On Wednesday 5th August, Blue1 and SAS Scandinavian Airlines will transfer all their operations to Terminal 1, when the division of domestic and international terminals ends at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Completely renewing its facilities, Terminal 1 will provide more fluent air travel for the passengers of Blue1 and SAS.
As of 5th August, the terminals at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will be designated to the airlines. Both the domestic and international flights of Blue1 will be relocated to Terminal 1. Besides Star Alliance members Blue1 and SAS, also Austrian Airlines, LOT, Lufthansa and TAP Portugal as well as future member Brussels Airlines will relocate to Terminal 1. A total of 12 airlines will be relocated to Terminal 1.
Blue1 and SAS Scandinavian Airlines operate a total of around 50 daily flights from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to more than 20 destinations, both domestic and international. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is the main hub of Blue1 and the busiest airport in Finland.
All facilities are close to the passengers at Terminal 1.
The remodelling of Terminal 1 will benefit travelling. At the compact-sized Terminal, all the facilities and functions are close to the passengers of SAS and Blue1. Transferring to connecting flights will be easier and luggage handling will be made more efficient, with all the Star Alliance members under the same roof. The vast renewal operation will be mainly finished by 5th August, whilst all the services and operations will be ready during late autumn.
A new feature at Terminal 1 will be the SAS Business Lounge, serving eligible passengers on both domestic and international flights. A completely remodelled and expanded SAS Business Lounge will be relocated to the gate area at Terminal 1 in October.
As a novelty, Terminal 1 will offer a separate Fast Track security check for the business passengers of Blue1 and SAS. The Fast Track will be launched during the autumn. The Blue1/SAS service desk will also be relocated from the connecting aisle between the terminals to the basement of Terminal 1, to be closer to the passengers.
More fluent air travel available
Using the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport as its main hub, it is an important step for Blue1 to relocate its flights, as well as the flights of its main partners to Terminal 1. „As soon as the renewed Terminal 1 is ready in the autumn, with all its facilities and functions, our passenger service will be on a completely new level,“ says Johanna Jäkälä, Director Product Concepts & Service Delivery, responsible for the Blue1 terminal change.
Additional projects to be completed at Terminal 1 in the autumn are additional check-in points, a remodelled baggage and customs area, a new border control checkpoint and renewed restaurant and café services and a shopping arcade.
