The newest zoo in Thailand, Chiang Mai Night Safari Zoo, features more than 1,700 animals across 150 different species, including lions, rhinoceros, and African elephants from Kenya, the rare white rhinoceros from South Africa and many more species from Australia and Asia.
Designed to be an international tourist attraction as well as a natural conservation habitat, it will be the second night zoo in the world. Plans call for it to become the biggest night safari in the world within three years.
About two million visitors are expected to visit the park annually, creating jobs for at least 300 local people. Park operators will be working closely with the National Park, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department and the Zoological Park Organization to ensure that the animals are well looked after.
