IBERIA SUMMONS STRIKE COMMITTEE TO REITERATE IN WRITING THE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY GUARANTEES OFFER TO ALL IBERIA PILOTS
- This afternoon it will hand over its written proposal with all the guarantees.
- Iberia hopes that the SEPLA union will call off the strike after this meeting, at which the assurances of continued employment are to be formalised.
The Iberia company has summoned the strike committee of the SEPLA pilots union in order to hand over a formal proposal in writing reiterating the guarantees of continued employment that the company has offered to all the pilots currently on the Iberia staff.
Since SEPLA called the strike alleging that Iberia’s investment in the Catair low-cost carrier puts its pilots‘ jobs at risk, Iberia hopes these guarantees will prompt SEPLA to end the strike, as it has promised repeatedly.
Some 200,000 Iberia customers have been affected by the strike which began today and is scheduled to end on next Sunday, July 16, disrupting services in what is traditionally the busiest week of the year for the Spanish airline. For the past six days, Iberia and its ground staff have been endeavouring to inform customers of the problem and to help them make new travel arrangements or, when preferred, to refund their money, in order to lessen the inconveniences caused by this unjustified strike. Iberia thanks its customers, and travel agencies, for their understanding and cooperation, and for the trust they have placed in Iberia.
