IBERIA HONOURED FOR BEST RED WINE IN BUSINESS CLASS

The American magazine Global Traveler has honoured Iberia for serving the best red wine to its international Business Class passengers.

In a competition to find the best wines served aboard airlines, Iberia’s Viña Arnáiz Reserva, 1999, Ribera del Duero, won the award for the best red.

A jury made up of sommeliers, vintners, and wine importers, exporters, buyers, merchants, and specialist journalists judged the entries by 31 of the world’s top airlines. Each airline submitted two reds, two whites, and a sparkling wine from their Business Class menus. Each juror rated them with 1 to 20 points.

The overall winner of the magazine’s „Wines on the Wing“ award was Air Canada’s champagne, Drappier Carte d’Or Brut.

Global Traveler is the only US magazine with articles and advice aimed specifically at business travellers. It covers food, fashion, wines, design, and technology, as well as travel.

Note: Iberia today is not only Spain’s leading airline, but it is also market leader on routes between Europe and Latin America. In 2005 it posted revenues of 5,603 million euros and net earnings of 395.8 million euros. Along with its franchise partner Iberia Regional, Iberia operates some 1,000 flights every day to some 100 destinations in Spain and around the world., carrying 32.4 million passengers in 2005. Iberia is a member of the oneworld airline alliance.
