Outrigger’s beachfront hotels present „Spooky Tales“ — free and frightfully fun
Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii – Guests staying at one of three Outrigger properties in Hawaii during the last week of October can experience „chicken skin“ (a.k.a. goosebumps) at the hotelier’s award-winning „Spooky Tales,“ a fun evening of Hawaiian ghost stories and other hair-raising tales presented by
master island storytellers.
On the island of Oahu, „Spooky Tales“ will take place on Monday, October 30, at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, and on Halloween Night, Tuesday, October 31, at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. The event will also take place on Friday, October 27, at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on
Hawaii’s Big Island. All three events are scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with free admission.
On Oahu, featured storytellers will include Woody Fern, acknowledged as one of Hawaii’s most accomplished storytellers. Of part-Hawaiian ancestry, Fern has taught classes on storytelling, and has performed his engaging tales at numerous schools, libraries, parks and other venues throughout the state.
His specialties include tales of Hawaiian ali`i (royalty), local legends, and stories passed down through families.
Fern will be joined by other master storytellers at Spooky Tales to share a variety of stories that have a connection to Hawaii, including some that draw from the islands‘ multi-cultural heritage.
On the Big Island, noted Hawaiian educator and cultural authority Keala Ching will join other storytellers to share tales highlighting the local area, including stories of Pele and of the Keauhou area where Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort is located.
Pele, goddess of the volcano, is one of the most famous deities of Hawaiian
mythology, renowned for her power and fiery temperament. Keauhou was known in ancient times for its royal fishponds, freshwater bathing pools and as a landing site for canoes. To this day, fascinating remnants of the area’s history are carefully preserved on or near the hotel grounds.
„Spooky Tales“ is sponsored in part by Bess Press, publishers of the Spooky Tales books; the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach; Outrigger Reef on the Beach; and Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort. For more information contact:
