With Thailand’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport set to open at 0300 on September 28, China Airlines will move all
its passenger and cargo flights to the new airport on that date.
Taipei, Taiwan – Also on that date, CAL’s new VIP lounge will be inaugurated at the new airport. The new Suvarnabhumi Airport will replace Don Muang International Airport as the international gateway to Bangkok. To match the moving schedule, China Airlines will move its CI067 flight, from Taipei via Bangkok to Rome, one hour earlier for departure time to 22:25 and its CI065 flight, from Taipei via Bangkok to Amsterdam, 30 minutes earlier to 22:00 on September 27.
Currently, China Airlines operates 80 passenger and nine cargo flights each week to Don Muang Airport. The first flight to use the new Suvarnabhumi airport will be CI 066, which will arrive at 0640 from Amsterdam and depart for Taipei at 0825 on September 28.
Located 32 kilometers east of Bangkok Metropolis, the new airport is accessible via five roads. It takes about one hour to drive between the airport and downtown Bangkok, and the cost is THB 35 for an air-conditioned bus. A city rail connecting to the city center is under construction, and is expected to open in late 2007. When the rail system is inaugurated, the transportation time will be reduced to 15 minutes.
CAL’s new VIP lounge is located on the third floor in the airport’s “D” district. The new lounge occupies 254 square meters and is 1.5 times larger than the current lounge. With 60 seats, it will be divided into four areas: Business Recreation, VVIP Recreation, Dining, and Internet. The new Bangkok
VIP Lounge will feature the young, professional and modern design that CAL first unveiled at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. It uses warm, soft lighting to create a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. To match the demand for web access, the new lounge provides a PC area with wireless web access, power hookups, and web sockets in all areas.
The new Suvarnabhumi Airport occupies 324 square kilometers, and is the largest airport in Asia. It has the tallest control tower in the world, at 132 meters, and can handle 76 flights per hour. With 360 check-in counters, the airport can process 45 million passengers annually. For additional convenience, the international and domestic terminals are in the same building. CAL’s service area is in “S” district, with more than 10 check-in counters. With the opening of the new airport, CAL’s services in and out of
Thailand will reach an even higher standard.
