Valencia: Museo Fallero Brings You Closer To Las Fallas

Getting to know Las Fallas is possible all year round at the Museo Fallero (Fallas Museum) situated in an old convent near the Palau de les Arts. Las Fallas is the biggest festival of the city of Valencia, when over a thousand wooden monuments decorated with papier-mâché invade the city streets between 15 and 19 March.

Satire is the letimotiv of these artistic works made up of a central figure that can stand up to thirty metres high and numerous others giving shape and life to the falla monument. Each neighbourhood has its own falla, and each falla selects one „ninot“ (wooden figure) that it thinks displays enough creativity and humour that it should not be consumed by the flames on the 19th, St. Joseph’s night. This figure is displayed in an exhibition with the ninots chosen by the other fallas in the city and visitors to the exhibition vote for the one they think should be spared from the flames. The ninot with the most votes becomes part of the collection at the Fallas Museum, home today to over 100 figures that allow visitors to view both their creative evolution and the official posters announcing the festival from 1934 on. Information: fallas.com
