Iberia receives five Corporate Responsibility Distinctions from Prestigious Organisations

Iberia is listed on the world’s most prestigious market indexes of companies showing corporate responsibility. The latest of these, the FTSE4Good IBEX, created by Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) and the company that provides indexes to the FTSE Group.

Madrid – The global sustainability index lists companies distinguished for their responsible business practices. The selection is made by an international committee of experts representing a variety of stakeholder groups, including investors, universities, NGOs, consultants, and public institutions.

Iberia is also recognised by the 2009 Sustainability Yearbook prepared by the consultants PriceWaterhouseCoopers and SAM (Sustainable Asset Management), an independent firm which conducts annual analyses for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. The yearbook names Iberia as the world’s second most responsible airline group, and shows an improvement in its score with respect to that of the previous year.

Each year the two firms analyse more than 1,000 companies around the world in all industries, selecting the 367 with the best practices in sustainability and corporate responsibility, while also representing an attractive investment opportunity.

Iberia was given a „Gold Class“ rating, accrediting it as the world’s second most sustainable airline. To obtain this rating, a company needs the votes of 75% of the analysts.

In addition, Iberia was found to be the airline that has progressed the most in terms of sustainability. Accordingly, it was listed as a „Sector Mover“, setting the pace for its industry by implementing the most exemplary improvements in the past year. Iberia was one of just four Spanish companies to earn this distinction.

Iberia is also listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World 2008-09 and European Indexes (STOXX 2008-09), which recognises the responsible business, social, and environmental policies of the world’s largest companies. Iberia was first including in 2004. Its scores improved in both 2006 and 2007, and it continues to be one of only three airlines on the world index. It was listed on both the World and European indexes for the first time in 2008. The company is currently preparing its annual submission of information in a bid to continue to appear on these exclusive rosters in 2009/10.

Iberia’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report for 2008 earned an A+ rating from Spain’s AENOR standards bureau which verified its claims, in conformity with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative Guide, which is designed to ensure stakeholders of the veracity of such information. The report, which will be handed to shareholders at the June 3rd GSM in Madrid, is already available on Iberia’s corporate web site.
