Iberia in „Wines on the Wing“ contest of airlines

Winning vintage is Condado de Haza Crianza 2006 (Ribera del Duero), with third prize in reds for Pujanza 2005 (Rioja). Todovino composes Iberia’s Business Plus cellars Iberia won „best in-flight wines“ honors in 2008

Madrid – A Condado de Haza Crianza 2006 (Ribera del Duero), included in the Business Plus cellars of Iberia in January, 2010, has won the “Wines on the Wing” award for the world’s best red to be served in business class. It ranked number two among all the 118 whites, reds, and sparkling wines submitted by the 26 airlines taking part in the competition. Iberia’s Pujanza 2005 Rioja took third place among the reds.

The awards, in addition to the „best cellars“ prize given to the Spanish airline in 2008, reflect Iberia’s efforts to introduce business travellers to Spain’s most exquisite wines and spread their fame around the world.

The Business Plus wine list is changed every three months but always includes Spain’s best wines carefully chosen by the experts of the Todovino wine consulting firm. The wines served in the air are also available in Iberia’s VIP lounges in Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas airport, and can be purchased via http://www.iberia.com/.

During the flight, passengers can find out more about the wines thanks to the information provided by the prize-winning sommelier Custodio L. Zamarra, member of the Todovino Tasting Comitte and Sommelier of Zalaca’n restaurant in Madrid.

Information about the wines is also available in the in-flight magazine Ronda Iberia and on the wine list itself.
